2016 Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center Meeting
The 2016 meeting of the Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center was held at the Mount Washington Conference Center in Baltimore on Monday June 20th. The meeting brought together the world’s leading experts on immunotherapy for a one day “think tank.” The meeting was simply a wonderful success. As one participant said, “the way science should be.”
The meeting started with a keynote presentation from Dr. Elizabeth Jaffee on the state of the art in the immunotherapy of pancreatic cancer. She highlighted the enormous advances that have been made and it’s exciting future. Dr. Jaffee’s presentation was followed by a series of brief provocative presentations from the other meeting participants. Each talk inspired wonderful back and forth high-level discussions. At times some participants stood out of their chairs with excitement.
The meeting ended with a very provocative “shark tank” type of session led by Bert Vogelstein. Meeting participants were asked to come up with the most exciting ideas from the day, ideas that could lead to the formation of a new company. Dr. Ben Lewis and Reed Jobs played the investors, and decided which ideas they would want to fund.
The 2016 meeting of the Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center was unique. Unlike many meetings that consist of a series of monotonous presentations of published work, participants in the Goldman meeting shared new, often unpublished work, and they were scientifically challenged (sometimes as soon as they showed their first slide!).
We plan to hold this type of meeting every year, and we hope that the ideas generated and inspired by these meetings will provide real significant advances forward in the fight against pancreatic cancer.

We thank everyone who participated and look forward to next year’s meeting!
