On three beautiful early autumn days, September 24-26, 2019, the Seventh Annual Pathology Educational Symposium took place on the East Baltimore campus. The Symposium continues to be a highly successful and enjoyable continuing education event for our staff and provides P.A.C.E.® continuing education credits from the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Services.
Co-chaired by the tireless Lorraine Blagg of Transfusion Medicine and Morgan Grabowski of Pathology HR, the Symposium is a highly collaborative effort of committee members, volunteers and speakers, and provides a very convenient and highly beneficial learning experience about diverse pathology topics, as well as areas of general interest. An online poster session was available to attendees for additional credits, as well.
The Symposium was attended by over 700 Pathology staff from Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview, our Outreach sites, Howard County General Hospital, and Suburban and Sibley Hospitals. A session from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida was webcast to the Turner Building, and several presentations from Baltimore were likewise livestreamed to All Children’s.
Six sessions on various topics were recorded and are available for credits.
This year’s presenters included keynote speaker Charlie Reuland, Ph.D., the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Hospital, Pathology director Dr. Ralph Hruban, twenty clinical laboratory staff, Pathology faculty, residents and leadership, as well as external speakers. Judging by the evaluations from attendees, enthusiasm for the Symposium is great and far-reaching and a highlight for the Department.
A sincere note of thanks to all the volunteers, speakers, committee members, and to Lorraine and Morgan for their hard work to make this another great educational experience for our employees.
