School Supplies Drive a Grand Success!

The Pathology Department once again showed the true spirit of giving through the latest charity drive – a school supply collection for Baltimore City teachers. This annual drive, coordinated by Carrie Holdren-Serrell and Paula Mister of Microbiology, focuses on one Baltimore City school, collecting cash and items from a “wish list” provided by the teachers of that school.  The collection took place during a three-week period in August.

This year’s school was Commodore John Rogers (CJR) Elementary-Middle School, which is located four blocks from the Johns Hopkins Hospital East Baltimore campus on North Chester Street. Many of the children are from needy families, and teachers must often use their own funds to supply these children with basic necessities for learning.  The Pathology Department collected a grand total of 751 items, including book bags, notebooks, glue sticks, crayons, and children’s underwear, as well as over $250.00 in cash which was used to purchase more costly items such as laminating film and ink cartridges.

School administrator Aaron Davis drove to the Hospital on September 14 with a large pickup truck, and several members of the Microbiology staff helped load the items.

Principal Marc Martin and the entire staff of CJR School expressed their thanks for our support of their school:

“Thank you for your outreach.  We are deeply appreciative and look forward to this partnership.”

“Thank you again for your efforts to support our school with this supply drive.”

We are truly grateful to ALL who participated in this effort — thank you so much!!!
