Helping Make Dreams Come True!

Infertility is a daunting problem that many couples face.   Here at Johns Hopkins Green Spring Station we are the only entity within the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions that is committed to offering  IVF (in vitro fertilization) services  to  those dealing with lack of success conceiving or carrying a pregnancy.  The physician will order a number of tests depending on the background and history of the patient.  Tests often include a transvaginal ultrasound and blood tests to evaluate hormones.   It is crucial that the IVF patient receives the ultrasound and the lab evaluation in a single visit —  these are measured throughout cycles where infertility medications are used.   In this manner the clinicians will be able to closely monitor the response to medications and tailor the treatment to achieve optimal results.

Six hormone assay lab tests are interfaced from our lab’s Immulite 1000 analyzer at GSS to BabySentryPro.   The tests are:   E2 (estradiol); FSH (follicle stimulating hormone);  hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin);  LH (luteinizing hormone);  PGN (progesterone);  and  TES (testosterone).

BabySentry Pro is an on-line fertility database management system for collecting and documenting data on IVF patients for the purpose of managing them throughout their treatment cycles and/or related care.  The system is used in IVF and ART (artificial reproductive technology) Lab clinics located in Green Spring Station.  This state-of-the-art interface is also significantly useful for off-hours, depending on the patient’s response to treatment and readiness for procedures (i.e.,  embryo transfer).  The IVF practice is a subspecialty within the OB/GYN specialty of Reproductive Endocrinology.

Our dedicated staff is available 7 days a week to perform the phlebotomy services and blood tests for our IVF patients at Green Spring Station.  The expected TAT ( turn around time) is within 3 hours after collection. An expedited TAT allows the patients to be evaluated and treated efficiently.

Helping to make dreams come true is a joyful part of our daily work at the Green Spring Station Lab.
